It’s that time of year again—the air feels warmer and lighter, the decorations and bright lights start appearing, and we’re reminded of the magic that Christmas brings. But for many families in the City of Melton, the holidays can be bittersweet, marked by tough choices: do they keep up with rising bills, or try to buy gifts for their kids?
At First National Real Estate Melton, we’ve seen firsthand how hard things can get, especially during the holiday season. That’s why, four years ago, we launched our Xmas Toy Drive. What began as a small act of kindness during the uncertainty of COVID lockdowns has grown into one of our most cherished initiatives. Today, it’s a powerful reminder of how our community comes together to spread joy.
How It All Started
In 2020, the world stood still. Families across Melton faced unimaginable challenges as businesses closed and support services became scarce. For many, Christmas seemed like just another hurdle in an already exhausting year. Witnessing this, we knew we had to act.
What began as delivering groceries to struggling tenants evolved into something much more heartfelt. We couldn’t bear the thought of children missing out on the magic of Christmas morning—the joy, the wonder, the excitement of unwrapping a gift meant just for them. And so, the Xmas Toy Drive was born.
Growing Every Year
Fast-forward to last year: with the help of our incredible community, we supported 60 families and over 213 children. It was a monumental effort made possible by the generosity of local businesses, big-hearted individuals, and even complete strangers who simply wanted to make a difference.
This year, the need is even greater. Rising living costs are squeezing families harder than ever. We’re anticipating close to 300 children will be registered for this year’s drive. That’s a big number—but we know our community can rise to the challenge. 
This Year’s Big Change: First National Foundation Joins the Drive
This year, we’re thrilled to announce that our Toy Drive is supported by the First National Foundation, the philanthropic arm of First National Real Estate. The foundation’s mission is to strengthen communities across Australia, and they’re known for their partnership with initiatives like Kids Helpline, which offers critical support to children in need.
With their backing, all donations to the Xmas Toy Drive are now tax-deductible, making it easier for individuals and businesses to contribute while maximizing the impact of their generosity. (Ben from Gen Z Trade Group pictured to the right with his generous donation!)
How You Can Help
Here’s how you can get involved and make a difference this Christmas:
- Donate New Toys or Gift Vouchers: We’re seeking new, unwrapped items to ensure safety and joy for the children.
- Drop Off Donations: Bring your contributions to our office at 311 High Street, Melton VIC 3337.
- Arrange for Collection: If you’re unable to drop off your donation, give us a call at 03 9746 6222, and we’ll come to you.
- Register a Family in Need: Know someone who could use a little extra cheer? Encourage them to email us at reception@fnmelton.com.au or visit our office.
